The Healthy And Refreshing Drinks To Cool You Down This Summer

The first day of summer was officially on Sunday and this week’s temperature highs so far have definitely been on track with the start of the season. As you sweat a little more, ice cream and fruit juices may start to slowly creep their way back into your life in an effort to cool your spirit with bursts of refreshing iciness.

But you’ve worked way too hard on your summer body to let it go now, and honestly, you have over two months to display your hard work. So let’s look at a few alternatives to the super sweet refreshing drinks that will allow you stay on track with your goals:

 

1. Water

I’m just going to start with water because it’s the best thing to put into your body. I’m sure many of you have heard the “drink 8 cups a day” rule. Though thats a decent range, water intake actually varies based on factors like height, weight, physical activity and gender. For the average man, it’s closer to 13 cups per day, and for women it’s around 9 cups per day.

 

2. Fruit Infused water

This is a very simple solution that comes in a wide variety of flavors, all determined by you! It’s just chopped up combinations of fruits placed in water and refrigerated for 2 hours, which gives the water time to absorb some of the fruit flavor.

My summer choice is a refreshing cucumber-lime-mint combo:

lime mint

Ingredients:

24 oz water

1/2 cucumber

1 small lime

Half a hand of mint leaves

Directions:

1. Thinly slice the cucumber and lime

2. Combine cucumber and lime slices with mint leaves, add to water and stir around

3. Let it sit in refrigerator for 2 hours

4. Stir and drink

 

3. BCAA ICEES

In the fitness world, an essential part of the workout supplementation stack is the BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acid) supplement. Long story short, it’s pretty effective at reducing muscle breakdown, and is great for helping maintain lean muscle mass. In a lot of forms it’s also delicious!

With loads of different brands and fruity flavors, you’re bound to find a good fit for you. I like to mix 24 ounces of my favorite BCAA (Watermelon-flavored Amino X by BSN) and stick it in the freezer. The next day, rather than chasing down ice cream trucks, I’m calmly sipping away at my highly beneficial BCAA Icee.
