Out Of Whack: 8 Steps To Restore Natural Balance To Your Body

If you’re finding yourself unable to focus, lost for time or completely overwhelmed, it may be time to check in with yourself to see if your body’s levels are out of whack.

Balance is when different elements are equal or in the correct proportions, so restoring balance in your life requires a look into your physical, mental, social and emotional well being. Try starting with these 8 steps to regain the natural balance your body is craving.


1. Exercise consistently

By now I’m sure you’ve heard that engaging in regular exercise not only helps you maintain your physical health and fitness, but also releases endorphins in your body that interact with your brain similarly to drugs such as morphine! What!!?? It’s the best loophole — drugs are BAD, but exercise is GOOD!


2. Give yourself a mental health check

Ask yourself, does this make me HAPPY? Your job, relationships, your breakfast even. Does it bring you joy? If the answer is ever a resounding NO, it’s time to reevaluate and move with intention towards change.


3. Tidy up your living space 

There’s a direct correlation between a messy house and a messy brain. It becomes inevitably harder to function under the weight of a laundry list of things to do. Clean out your closet, clear clutter from your desk, delete ALL the emails you’re never ever, ever, ever going to read and give yourself some room to breathe.


4. Schedule in time to disconnect

Close the laptop and turn off the phone. Unless you’re a neurosurgeon, it can wait. I once took inventory of time spent checking my phone over the course of 24hours. Imagine my surprise when I realized 5 hours of my day was invested in unnecessary screen time.


5. Monitor your self talk

“I am not a morning person.” As long as you keep telling yourself this, you will never be a morning person. Think of some of the negative self talk moments you are consistently having throughout the day. Write them down and begin to consciously turn those statements around.


6. Protect your energy

Do everything you can to create positively everywhere you go. Your daily interactions can make or break your emotional energy. Negative energy met with a positive reaction has the potential to turn a situation around, and shine a light on an otherwise dark interaction.


7. Learn to say no

My gosh, you are popular! Well of course you are — you’re talented and charismatic, fun to be around and a phenomenal friend. But don’t forget, the word NO is a complete sentence. Being everywhere and doing everything takes time away from your rest and rebuilding opportunities. It’s ok to miss an event or two. Stop and take inventory; are you spending more hours catering to the needs of everyone else and suffering silently in the background?


8. Surround yourself with positive programming

On every corner, there’s another ad. Every broadcast commercial guides us to subconsciously believe things to be true. Much in the same way listening to positive, motivational or spiritual broadcast for just a few minutes a day subconsciously embeds thoughts into our brains using constant reinforcement. Cultivating a positive attitude is key!
