Open Up Happiness: Birchbox’s Riveting New Makeup Launch

Stevi graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama. When she's not auditioning and running around New York, she's escaping to her original home at the Jersey Shore and most definitely lying on a beach somewhere equidistant between the ocean and tiki bar. She's a coffee snob, craft beer enthusiast, technology nerd, and obviously (most importantly) has a very real addiction to buying and trying affordable beauty products.

I mean, I’m probably writing to the wrong audience of people if I have to ask if you’re aware that it’s totally possible, in this glamorous life, to have new beauty products delivered to your door each month. But seriously, are you aware?

The most excited you’ll ever be to see the mailman

In case you’re not, here’s the sitch: there are a few different subscription services out there you can get involved with that will send a box or bag with a combination of skincare, makeup and hair care to your doorstep. The original (and most famous) service is called Birchbox. The boxes are usually made up of a bunch of generously sized sample products for a set price of $10 a month. The samples will last you a while, and if you’ve become attached to any of the items, you can buy the full-sized product on the website.

Love of Color Makeup Line

Now, for those of you who think this is old, uninteresting news, you might be tickled to hear that Birchbox has launched its own beauty line! They’ve named it “Love of Color” (or LOC). The line focuses on lipsticks and eye shadow sticks, for now. My absolute favorite YouTube beauty queen, Tati Westbrook, curated their new line. Dude, if you haven’t checked out her videos yet, get on it. She’s my go-to when it comes to solid, unbiased opinions and product recommendations. So, I trust that any product she’d put her name on would be nothing short of baller.

What’s good with these products, though?

The new line is made up of matte lipsticks and cream eye shadow sticks. The sticks are made with bold, colorful, high pigmentation used to celebrate the makeup trends of the upcoming season. They are purposely made to be smaller than most products of the same kind because they are only intended to last through one season.

“Vibrant Matte Lipsticks”

The lipsticks come in three bold, autumn appropriate shades. “First Kiss” is a pink, nude, appropriate for every daywear. “Wildest Dreams” is that classic Hollywood, blue toned red. And, the shade that is likely to be my favorite is the shade called “Glam Life,” which is a deep berry tone. They have a matte formula with a creamy texture. According to Tati, they are transfer resistant, and incredibly long lasting without causing discomfort.

“One and Done Shadow Sticks”

The eye shadows are easily blend-able and won’t crease once they’ve set. They don’t need a primer and are designed to work well with each other. “On Point” is a champagne, tope, and neutral shimmery shade. “Impress Me” is a deep rose gold with a purple undertone. If you’re going more for a deep plum, “Night Owl” is your color of choice. “Day Trip” gives you a coppery gold pop on your lids while the metallic steel color of “Smoke Screen” is great for a smokey eye. Tati says you’ll have about 30 seconds of playtime once you lay down the shadows to blend and move product before it sets.

Check her video below for reviews, swatches, and insider info about the products she’s throwing her name on. These products are, of course, included in the boxes this month, but you also have the option of buying different combination sets on the website. I simply cannot wait to get my paws on them.
