Milk Makeup: 4 Products From The Cruelty-Free Line That Will Blow You Away

As a self proclaimed makeup and beauty freak, I was ecstatic when I found out Milk Studios was coming out with its own line of makeup products. A makeup line is the last thing that I would have expected from a brand known for its unique art galleries and eclectic runway shows, but hey, I’m most certainly not complaining.

Appropriately named Milk Makeup, the line advertises itself as having a collection of cruelty free products made from all natural ingredients, specifically targeted toward the girl on the go. The line features an array of products for skin, lips, and eyes and sets itself apart from other competing brands partly because the advertising is so aesthetically pleasing, the products are all made in house at their offices in New York City, and because the packaging is also so simple, sleek, and designed not to get lost in the black hole that is your purse.

Most of the products are also pretty straightforward and easy to use, so you don’t have to be a makeup artist to be able to create a flawless look using any of the products. I decided to try out some of the products for myself, which were all pleasantly surprising in their own way.

1. Lip Color

Let me start out by saying that I absolutely adore matte lipstick. I refuse to buy any other kind because not only does matte lipstick stay on your lips without running into your teeth every time you eat or drink, but it also just feels significantly better than any other lipstick.

So when I got my hands on one of the Milk Makeup lip colors, I was over the moon when I felt it seamlessly glide onto my lips with the ease only a matte lipstick could provide. I got it in the color “Grrrl” after seeing it on a friend, and it’s essentially a dark mauve reminiscent of something Kylie Jenner would wear. This has now become my go to lipstick for weekend nights and makes the perfect addition to my fall lipstick collection. I wore it an entire night out and only had to reapply once.

2. Matte Bronzer

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this matte bronzer! I for one, hate shimmery bronzers and for some reason I have the worst luck trying to find one that doesn’t make my face look like a unicorn just threw up all over it. This bronzer, however, has absolutely no sparkle to it. I got it in the color Baked, which as far as I’m concerned is the only color available, but it looks great on. Not only that, but unlike powder bronzers, this one is creamy and comes in a thick tube that makes it super it easy to apply without you having to worry about getting powder all over your face. Oh and did I mention that it’s made with mango butter and peach nectar? Yeah, this product could not get any better.

3. Lip Salve

My lips have an unfortunate tendency of drying out every five minutes. No matter how much chapstick I apply, only a few minutes go by before I find myself digging for it in my purse again. As far as chapsticks go, there’s not much to say about them.

But the lip salve by Milk Makeup blows every chapstick I’ve tried out of the water. I got it in the color Rosé which, according to the website, is supposed to add a faint pink color to your lips, which I didn’t really seem to notice. However the lip salve, which is made out of jojoba oil and shea butter, kept my lips hydrated all day long.

4. Tattoo Stamp

Although not technically a makeup product per say, the tattoo stamp that Milk Makeup offers is a cute and fun way to add a little bit of edge to your look. It comes in both star and heart shapes and you can place them on virtually any part of your body. The ink washes away rather easily, so you can ink yourself up to your heart’s content without having to worry about showing up to brunch the next day with stars all over your forehead. This product made me feel like a kid again, but you know, like a kid who enjoys drinking mimosas for breakfast with star shaped stamps all over her body.

All in all, every single product defeated every expectation I had. What I loved most about these products is the fact that they’re made with ingredients you might find at your local Whole Foods, which makes me feel a little bit better about going to sleep with my makeup on (the Milk Makeup Gel Makeup Remover is currently in my shopping cart!).

I’d absolutely recommend these products to anyone, and if you’re feeling generous and want to pick something up for your bestie, they sell kits which contain mini versions of the products that make a perfect Secret Santa gift. All of these products mentioned above are available for purchase at the Milk Makeup website, Sephora, and Urban Outfitters.
