Miami On The Cheap: 5 Budget-Friendly Happy Hours In Wynwood You Have To Try

Lia Seirotti
Lia is a writer, blogger, and art-lover. Ultimately just a girl in her thirties blogging about Miami's lifestyle, her travels, and growing up in general on her coming of age blog:

By now it’s pretty safe to assume that the world has heard of Wynwood — the Miami neighborhood which has been called “the museum of the streets” and has been legally operating since 2009. Home to hundreds of businesses and covered in paint, Wynwood has been the canvas of gentrification in Miami. This is why it baffles me when I still hear people say they have never been to Wynwood. Equally annoying is the next question that usually comes out of their mouths, “is it safe there?”

In an attempt to put all rumors to rest, I thought I would research and compile a list of the best Happy Hours to introduce the world to Wynwood:

The Sophisticated Happy Hour

R House:

If you’re in the mood for fine dining and lounging with a side of art, R House provides you the opportunity to have it all. You can sip a cocktail all while perusing the art for sale in the integrated gallery. However the true works of art at R House are their signature cocktails.

They infuse the liquor on site with different fruits to give each drink a special taste.

When to go: Tuesday through Friday from 5-7 PM, those infused cocktails are only $6 and $4 beers.

The Happy Hour that Gives Back

Teachers, firemen/EMT, military and anyone who works “in the biz” gets 50% off drinks. Be sure to bring an ID and a designated driver with you to fully enjoy the perks of serving your community.

When to go: Mondays from open to close.

The Budget-Friendly Happy Hour

Wood Tavern:

If you’re in the mood for free with a side of raunchy, hit up the most unpretentious of happy hours. Whether it’s Taco Tuesday or Ladies Night on Wednesdays, this happy hour is sure to give you the most bang for your buck.

When to go: Tuesdays for free tacos and Wednesday for free wells drinks for ladies.

The Best Happy Hour for People-Watching

The Bar Next Door:

Brought to you by the guys who brought you Wood Tavern, if you’re over the out-of-towners and hipsters at Wood, then walk next door for a classier, cozier bar.

The burgers are amazing and as an extra perk, if you sit by the window, you can either admire the art of the Wynwood Walls across the street or watch the passersby as they admire the walls. Either way you’re sure to enjoy the view.

When to go: Mondays for half off drinks for anyone who works in the industry or Wednesdays for $5 Wynwood brews and $3 wings.

The Best Weekend Happy Hour

El Patio Wynwood:

Aside from being the most authentically Latin bar in Wynwood, it is also one of the cheapest and prettiest. Stepping into the backyard is like traveling to South America. You will feel like you’re with family. Latin Grammy Nominated producer and re-mixer, Mr. Pauer (Toto González), delivers the best sets of Latin music to dance to so be sure to bring your dancing shoes.

When to go: Sundays from 1 PM to 9 PM, where you’ll find a Colombian family patiently making homemade fresh Sancocho stew, drinks for $4, and $1 beers.

Wynwood is probably one of the only places you can enjoy such diversity and awesome atmosphere. If you have yet to go, or haven’t been in a long time, it’s time. Come in with patience, you’ll want to take in the art, colors, and people. While you’re watching paint dry, there won’t be any time to be bored; so, brace yourself, choose one of the happy hours on the list, and drink up.
