Every year the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City holds the Met Gala, a fundraising benefit for the Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit and each year celebrates a certain theme. Our favorite celebrity guests are expected to choose their looks to match. This year’s theme has been named “Manus x Machina: Fashion in An Age of Technology.”

So with expectations high (we all remember Beyonce and Rihanna’s dresses from last year’s event) and the theme set, I went on to stalk all of my favorite celebrities, especially those that I knew would go to great lengths to represent the intersection of fashion and technology.

The hostess with the mostest (and my girl crush) was the first to catch my eye — yes, I’m talking about you, Tay Swift. With her heels wrapped to her knees, a fresh hair dye, dark lips, and a snakeskin dress, she definitely made heads turn. Not everyone was thrilled about this look, but I’m all for a little risk taking.

Couple Alert: Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik slayed the game on the red carpet with their thoughtfully executed ensembles. But this isn’t prom where we color coordinate, this is the Met Ball, so naturally they match Zayn’s robot geer (not sure I’m feelin’ it, but hey, it’s all about the head turning looks) with Gigi’s ring bling. Zayn did his best to meet the theme of the night, but I’m giving Gigi the win with this duo — the sheer gown/bodysuit with sequins had us loving every minute of it.

Blake Lively (aka Serena) walked the red carpet giving us elegance, meets chic, meets princess. But then again, what doesn’t look good on Blake? I’m not sure where the technology theme plays into her fashion choice, but I can’t say I really care.

Next on the list is Solange Knowles (I know Queen B is slightly more important to you all, I’ll get there). My main question with her ‘dress’ choice: What the actual f***? I mean, she’s hot, don’t get me wrong, but it looks like she stuck a bunch of yellow dyed coffee filters together to make an outfit (too harsh?). She did make my head turn, just maybe not in the way you would want it to.

Can we talk about Emma Stone now? Like hot damn. The new hair, the dress, just Emma Stone in general. Her dress reminds me of something Danaerys out of Game of Thrones would wear, which in my book, makes it 10x better. Keep on killing the game, Emma.

Do I even have to say that Lady Gaga came through the red carpet with another ‘WTF is happening’ outfit? However, compared to what we’ve seen her rock in the past, this outfit not only meets the theme, but makes me stop and think, “Good for her for not giving a shit and wearing whatever she wants,” because somehow she always makes it work.

Demi Lovato is another girl crush of mine, and I couldn’t leave her out of the mix — especially when she stopped me dead in my tracks (or scroll through Instagram) with this perfectly sequined (can you tell I have a thing for sequins?), body shaping, hot AF dress. She not only made an ideal fashion choice, but also rocked that badass pose on the red carpet to really bring it home.

If you’re a bird, I’m a bird — right? Zoe Saldana walked the Met Gala red carpet in a beautiful, show-stopping, elegant dress with Peacock feathers fluttering down the train. It was different yet chic, and I can’t stop looking at it.

Last but definitely not least, the Queen B showed up to the Gala in a latex, nude, and very form-fitting dress. Normally I stray away from A) nude colors because I’m pale AF right now, and B) latex…well I stray away from that in my outfits all the time. However, Beyonce (and I’m not just saying this because I love her) somehow pulls off this look. Her booty is poppin, her hair is perfect, and the dress just ties it all together. Keep slaying, Queen.

Obviously there are hundreds more celebrities that came out to the Met Gala bringing their A game, but I’m all about head-turning, show-stopping, ‘what is happening’ type of looks — and I’m pretty sure this list has got that covered. Until next year!
