Introducing The New Lip Color Brand You Need In Every Color

Stevi graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama. When she's not auditioning and running around New York, she's escaping to her original home at the Jersey Shore and most definitely lying on a beach somewhere equidistant between the ocean and tiki bar. She's a coffee snob, craft beer enthusiast, technology nerd, and obviously (most importantly) has a very real addiction to buying and trying affordable beauty products.

Yoooooo, every once in awhile a product comes along that totally throws me. Because I’m no less than obsessed with drugstore beauty products, it’s uncommon for me to miss the hype about the next launch. Whether it’s from the 23 beauty gurus (actually, though) that I follow on YouTube, or the crazy unrealistic ads in my Cosmo magazine, I’m usually in the know and waiting anxiously for some product to appear in the CVS beauty aisles. So, it took me by surprise the other day when I happened to come across the brand new Ultra HD Matte Lip Color by Revlon.

The deets on Revlon’s new “lip color”

It’s called a “lip color” instead of a lipstick or gloss because it’s kind of in a world of its own. This formula is wax free and gel-based so it glides on your lips like a liquid lipstick, but feels more like a cream. The gel keeps the product from settling into fine lines and maintains a moisturized feel on your lips.

They’ll only set you back about $10, and there are 6 killer shades to choose from, ranging from a nude to a Hollywood Red. Revlon already launched a line of liquid lipsticks which I am not a fan, but has a line of matte balm stains of which I am the biggest fan. SO when I saw these babies in the aisle I’m certain I squealed. So much promise!

What to do

I picked up the nude shade in “HD Seduction” as well as a deeper berry (my go-to) shade in “HD Addiction.” The nude shade is a great sitch’ for my lips and the product goes on smoothly and comfortably. It goes on much glossier than I’d expected for a “matte” product, and though the initial glossy-ness settles down, it never dries down to a flat matte.

As someone who normally digs a totally matte lip, I was surprised that the subtle gloss didn’t bother me. I found the velvety finish to catch the light really nicely which made the product extremely flattering.

The real test came when I decided to try out the berry color for a big performance. I applied the lipstick before the show and it lasted me through a full singing set, after party and meal with zero touch ups. The shade is stunning and flattering. It doesn’t feel as loud as the tube would suggest. And as time passes the shine disappears and you’re left with a very comfortable, lightweight, even stain on your lips. Dig.

And the final breakdown of the product…

I love, I love, I love. I’m super impressed with this product. The formula is bomb. You don’t get that dry, sticky feel that’s sometimes caused by long wear liquid lipsticks or matte stains where you feel the need to apply some kind of balm to repair the impending damage.

On the contrary, they’re super comfy and flattering, the colors are beautiful, and the lasting power is amazing. The product feels high end on your lips and has packaging to match. The sleek design of these lipcolors makes you feel like you’re holding and applying a luxury product to your pout, not lugging around another drugstore plastic lipstick.

Best part — you’re saving the dollars! Perfect 10’s all around from me. I can’t wait to go back and grab some more shades.
