After the insane popularity of true-crime podcasts and shows like “Serial” and “The Jinx,” Netflix is giving the genre its own attempt with a documentary series called “Making of a Murderer.

The series will cover the bizarre case of Stephen Avery, a man sent to prison for many years after being convicted of a violent rape. He was eventually exonerated thanks to DNA evidence and inspired legislation to prevent wrongful convictions, but of course, there was a catch — he violently raped and killed a different woman.

This isn’t the first time Avery’s strange story has been told. There’s an awesome Radiolab episode about him called “Are You Sure?” but Netflix intends to cover all the case’s twists, turns, and mishandling of the justice system in vivid detail over 10 episodes. It’s premiering December 18, giving you and your family just enough time to binge watch it all and have a hearty debate about human nature and evil around the Christmas table!
