Hey 20somethings, as we head into the last month of summer, it’s time to pack up and squeeze out whatever bit of vacation you have left in you, whether it’s a weekend getaway to a nearby state or a two-week backpacking trip on the opposite end of the earth. However, keep in mind that you Air bnb host may not have the perfect accommodations to support your health and fitness goals, so what can you take with you to help you stay on track?
Here are some tools of the trade and what you can do with them to maintain your fitness goals even when you’re traveling:
Your standard resistance band is one of the most versatile fitness tools to grace this earth. It’s super portable, comes in a variety of resistance levels, and can be positioned to work almost any body part.
I’m not usually one for infomercial fitness tools, however, the ab wheel is one of those rare ones that has outlasted the trend phase through utility. Easy to use, ab wheels can wreak havoc on your abs, lower back, upper back, shoulders and arms.
As one of the slightly newer fitness tools, TRX has become the trainer’s favorite torture device. A TRX is a suspension system that can be attached to a ceiling, doorway or bar. All TRX movements require an element of core stability, and boasts a large variety of exercises.
A staple of the Tabata style workouts, gliding discs can either be purchased for personal use, or DIY’d with two towels or paper plates. Best used to increase strength, stability, flexibility, and muscle endurance, if used properly, gliding discs can give you the only workout you’ll need.
All of these items can be purchased on Amazon and packed away neatly into your suitcase or carry on. They’re all suitable to circuit training and can deliver a solid workout when vacationing away from a workout facility. Vacation time is no excuse to slack off from your goals. Make an investment in some equipment and take your workout with you!
