The shopping event of the season is not what you might expect. Holiday shopping and Black Friday are so stressful, and sample sales are always fun but often limited. It is actually New York City’s premiere charity that hosts hands-down the best event for getting your retail fix in a way that also makes you feel like a Good Samaritan.

What was formerly the best kept secret of NYC’s real-life Carrie Bradshaw is now something that you will want to mark on your calendar for years to come. Every year, Housing Works (a non-profit thrift and consignment chain that has spearheaded the movement of providing services to at-risk LGBT populations for the past 25 years) stocks their Chelsea store with over $1 million of NEW and DESIGNER clothes, shoes, and accessories, the profits of which support their youth initiative programs.

Every year, Housing Work’s Fashion for Action event invites celebrities and shopaholics to come together and support the cause. Then, in true fashionista style, The Rubin Art Museum across the street from the Chelsea locale hosts a fabulous after party to the mind-boggling sale. This year party-host Bevy Smith and famed designer Zac Posen will host the star-studded event with the likes of Victoria’s Secret Angel Martha Hunt and award-winning actress Patricia Clarkson.

The sale will be open to the public for two days after the amazing party, but there’s no guarantee your size and premium pick will be available. We recommend shelling out the extra cash for VIP shopping. With designers like Ted Baker, DVF, Theory, and Derek Lam discounted over 90 percent, it is well worth the early access fee to pre-shop — trust us as we went last year too (and literally had an adrenalin-induced aneurism over buying new DVF fur Oxfords for $75).Plus Patrick Janell of @AGuyNamedPatrick will be hosting VIP shopping, so you can get the advice on what looks good from one of NYC’s best-loved bloggers.

With clothes for both men and women, check everyone off your gift list and grab something (or everything) for yourself as well! If you can’t make the shopping event and after-party, make sure you set an iPhone reminder to pop in the store as quickly as possible before all the deals are gone! And as you’re shopping unbelievable selection for an amazing cause, it really is the event you cannot miss.
