Happy Fourth of July! Today is one of those great days when you can celebrate America’s independence by overindulging on food, entertainment and great company. Of course today is also the day that your gym closes early, or doesn’t open at all. While you may have been looking forward to this day, the mantra remains – NO DAYS OFF! Here’s some advice to help you stay fit this 4th:
Jump Start Your Day
- Start your day with a quick circuit after tuning into 20something. Set the tone for fitness early in your holiday weekend, and keep yourself in a fit state of mind. This will remind you of your fitness goals, and encourage healthy decisions over the weekend.
Lawn Games/ Board Games
- If you have open space, find lawn games to keep yourself and your guests active. Badminton is a pretty good choice, or bring it back to your childhood with a friendly game of freeze tag. Spice things up with fitness challenges for the last place winners.
- You’re already half naked and sweating, not to mention there’s an endless pool of salt water to wade into when you’re done with an intense beach workout. Relive one of Rocky’s timeless moments with wind sprints on the beach, HIIT style. 30 second on, 30 seconds off, 6 rounds! Grab your friends and a few beer cans – turn it into a fun relay.
- Time to replenish those energy stores. You’ve earned it for your hard work up to this point. Make sure to load your plate up as high as you can, and enjoy the abundance of carbs and protein. Stay away from soda, and super sweetened drinks, so you can spend your calories on important things, like more food.
