I’m sure you’ve been told throughout your life that you need to set goals that you’re working towards accomplishing.

However, goals that we set for ourselves are usually vague and lack the all-important execution plan.

Without being specific and having a proper strategy that you can implement, you’ll likely never achieve your goals.

This is the problem with most people, they set vague, far off goals for themselves that they half-ass work towards, in hopes that one day they’ll achieve them.

This kind of mentality will get you nowhere fast and I highly recommend avoiding vagueness and getting SMART with your goals!

So what the heck are SMART goals?

Well SMART is acronym that stands for:

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Relevant

Timely

Just to clarify, it’s not a bad thing to have far off goals that aren’t attainable yet. However, you need to use a series of SMART goals to help you get there.

So let’s take a closer look at SMART goals.

Specific

This is so incredibly important. Your goals must be specific, not general! Specific goals will cover things like who, what, where, why and how. All aspects of the goal must be known.

Measurable

You must be able to actually measure your goals so you can stay on track and know how much more is required to reach achievement.

Attainable

When you’re setting your goals, make sure they are realistic and that you’ll be able to make them come true. Take into account many factors including your skills, time, work ethic, network, location and financial situation.

Relevant

Make sure your goal fits in with your lifestyle or aligns with other goals you have set. It should be a piece of the puzzle in creating your ideal life and accomplishing your ultimate goals.

Timely

Your goals must be bound by a time frame. Without one, you will have no sense of urgency and will continue to procrastinate. This also helps with your mindset because your subconscious mind will be more aware of the things you need to do in order to achieve your goals on time.

I can’t tell you how important it is to your success that you start setting SMART goals instead of vague, general goals.

I didn’t even understand how important this was until I heard John Lee Dumas from EO Fire on a podcast talk about this exact topic.

He said, “The one commonality successful Entrepreneurs share is their ability to set and accomplish goals.”

Wow! That’s insane knowledge right there because this guy has interviewed over 1,000 successful entrepreneurs!

He went on to talk about SMART goals and why they are so critical to accomplishing anything significant in life.

When I finished listening to that podcast I began to realize how important specific goals are and now I make sure that all of my goals are SMART.

Whether you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, or just trying to improve your health, SMART goals will help you get insanely clear on your vision and give you an action plan so that you can crush your goals!
