Cari Fletcher, a singer from New Jersey who goes by the stage name FLETCHER, is breaking boundaries and establishing herself as one of THE female artists to watch out for this year.
She initially was a part of the girl group “Lakoda Rayne” on X Factor, but dropped that gig and decided to start her solo career after the competition ended. As an independent artist, Fletcher uses Spotify along with her personal social media accounts to promote her music to her fans. Fletcher serves as yet another example of a talented artist who’s defying odds with her decision to not sign to a label (cue Chance the Rapper vibes).
She relies on finding success through streaming platforms online, and it just so happens to be working…
Fletcher’s first single “War Paint” was released in 2015 and found massive success that went viral song on Spotify. “War Paint” was the most shared song on the site for two weeks. Her song “Live Young Die Free” was selected as one of the tracks on the platform’s curated playlist, “Spotlight on 2016,” giving her massive recognition to a wide-range audience. This song is off her 2016 EP Finding Fletcher, which also found notable success on Spotify.
Fletcher recently released her latest single “Wasted Youth” along with an accompanying moving music video where she reveals the paradox of nostalgia she faces.
“I feel like with this song I acknowledged that youth isn’t forever, love is definitely not forever…but memories are. We should live in the moment, always,” Fletcher told JustJared.com.
“When making this video with my friend Ryan Hutchins, I wanted to capture that message and that feeling. In a way this video represents the nostalgia of the now. I’m overwhelmed by the response on this one already. Not only has this been a professional breakthrough for me, but a personal one. It was really special for me to release this for International Woman’s Day for all the fearless females out there.”
Breakthroughs in the music industry, along with personal evaluations such as revealing her sexuality in the “Wasted Youth” music video, showcase Fletcher’s continued success found through creating honest and genuine content. She displays a sense of fearlessness in her art and it can be seen in the music video below, where she encourages all females to be their authentic, true selves.
Fletcher is featured on the cover of Spotify’s #dancePOP playlist this month alongside Michael Brun. “Wasted Youth” is a featured song on there. Fletcher shouts out Spotify in one of latest Instagram posts with a caption that read:
“Because of streaming platforms like @spotify, it is such an exciting time for independent artists. Thank you for giving us little people a voice and the ability to make waves in a big way without relying on a big machine. This song is so special to me and I’m stoked to have @michaelbrun be a part of this moment. Here’s to the dreamers who thought you could never make it on your own, because you fucking can.”
Fletcher serves as another incredibly inspiring example that doing things differently, is often times the move to finding true success; success without limitations or boundaries.
