Are You Ready For Spring? 4 Diet and Exercise Techniques To Prepare

Leo was raised with the perfect balance of pop culture obsession and a total lack of athleticism. He spends most of his time trying to decide what show to watch next, giving up, and then putting on Chopped or Seinfeld. His parents thought he'd be a doctor or lawyer until he wrote his SAT essay explaining the entire plot of the show "Lost." Leo now works in NYC and fulfills his desperate need for attention by writing articles and playing with leashed dogs waiting for their owner to get out of Starbucks.

Spring is just a few weeks away and summer will be here in an instant…which means BBQs, rooftops, and of course, swimsuit season.

Don’t worry! We totally forgot too, but there’s still time and for your consideration (and mine!). We’ve ranked three of the most popular diet and exercise options to get you looking your best before the parkas and boots have to come off.

Diet 1: Atkins

One of the most popular and recognizable low-carb diets, Atkins limits your carb intake and substitutes it with protein and fat. Essentially, quit pasta but go metaphorically and literally HAM on some ham.

Or perhaps:

Pros: A diet where bacon and cheese are not only accepted but welcomed.

Cons: The human body kinda needs carbs to survive though so warn your friends that your mood might change slightly….

Enjoyment: 4 out of 5 (…I mean, bacon and cheese)

Weight Lost Potential: 1 out of 5 (…come on, it’s a diet with bacon and cheese, what’d you expect?)

Diet 2: Juice Cleanse

Replace food with juice. What could go wrong?

Pros: Probably the cheapest “meal replacement” option out there today.

Cons: …It’s the cheapest because you’re also starving yourself.

Enjoyment: 1 out of 5

Weight Lost Potential: 1 out of 5 (or 7 out of 5, if you count the immediate after-effects of the Cayenne, Lemon Juice, & Maple Syrup cleanse)

Exercise 1: SoulCycle

SoulCycle answers that typical Millennial problem…“I like bicycles and I like exercise…but how do I combine the two?”

Pros: At $35 per class and $320 for 10 classes, SoulCycle also helps to jump-start your weight loss by making sure you don’t have any disposable money for restaurants, snacks, or your monthly rent.

Cons: Some have noted that SoulCycle seems…well…a bit cult-ish and the whole “Culture of Yes” and “Pack.Tribe.Community” stuff isn’t helping either…

Enjoyment: 5 out of 5 (ONE OF US, ONE OF US, ONE OF US)

Weight Lost Potential: 4 out of 5

Exercise 2: Running Apps

Over the past few years, numerous running apps have started up to breathe some life and fun into the oldest exercise in existence. Why are apps like Couch to 5K, Nike+, and Strava so necessary?

…Because running is the worst.

This is how you think you look when running….

Here’s how you actually look…

Enjoyment: 2 out of 5

Weight Lost Potential: 5 out of 5

In the end, you still have plenty of time before the seasons change so enjoy what time you have left of winter.  You have to pick the diet and exercise that works best for you but don’t worry, no matter what, we think you look great anyway!
