Millennials are some creative beings. We’ve managed to have involvement in everything, from business to technology. We’ve created a path that is all our own and found ways to not just work a traditional 9 to 5, but also bring in other forms of income — the side hustle.

A side hustle is a way to make some extra cash that gives you the flexibility to pursue what you’re interested in or passionate about without having to quit your day job. Not to mention the benefits of earning some extra bucks, and who doesn’t love that!

I have my own views on whether these endeavors are beneficial, but I wanted to see how other 20somes felt about the mighty side hustle. I asked the question on one of my social media accounts, and received some unexpected answers. Overall, there are a number of factors that makes having a side hustle something a millennial might what to consider if they haven’t already.

Here are the top four reasons why a side hustle can become a millennials best friend.

4. Strengthening Your Credentials

As a freelance writer, you’re constantly looking for that next opportunity to get your name out there, receive an income, or both. Sites, such as 20something, allow individuals like me to utilize their voices in productive ways that can impact others. I relish every opportunity to exercise my passion for writing and provide a voice for people, while also evoking emotion and starting conversations — so it was a perfect fit.

I would encourage someone who is considering the possibility of a side hustle to do your research. There are a lot of opportunities out there to gain another form of income. Utilize all of your social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook) to highlight your work because you never know who’s watching and may want to work with you.

Try not to get discouraged if an opportunity you wanted doesn’t work out. Keep pushing forward and something will manifest that was meant solely for you.
